Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me, leading wherever I choose.
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune—I myself am good fortune;
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Strong and content, I travel the open road.

Athletic Sports at the QEII

Another successful school-wide event at the Queen Elizabeth II athletic park! It was a fine day for the track and field events and another great opportunity to harvest learning outside of the traditional classroom walls.

We were at the QEII a couple weeks ago for Swimming sports, and although many of the same procedures were in place, today had more of a school spirit feel to it because we’ve all had more time to get to know each other. I could pick out my students in their races and events, and just generally noticed a lot more of my students (even though they were all clad in house colours – including a girl from Karsten house dressed as a banana!).

Highlights of the Athletic Sports day:
1) the spirit radiating off the students and staff
2) the school-wide march around the track
3) my Year 9 student who broke a track record for the U14 3000 meter race
4) Explaining the burning C on my t-shirt (Go Flames Go!)
5) Mr. Joel’s purple hat
6) the weather - 20 degrees!

And, for those of you whose curiosity was piqued by the different between a Canadian wiener roast and a NZ sausage sizzle, this is what it looks like:

One more teaching day this week, then off to Hokitika on Friday afternoon for the Wildfood festival – look out huhu grubs, here we come!

Thanks for reading…

Hi Larissa:

Looks like you had lots of fun at the QEII sports event. The sausage sizzle looks delicious. Do you think you might be looking for the same kind of food when you return to Canada?

Hey!
That sausage made my stomach churn... Could it be the piles of onions?!
Miss you!

Sausage sizzle looks okay to me...just like we have in Oz. Is it a kangaroo sausage? Yes, we eat our National Emblem!
